The drought has broken

It's been 44 years.

44 long years.

Up until yesterday, the Geelong Cats had not won a Grand Final for that long. Heck, I wasn't even born last time we won a Grand Final.

... And then the drought broke. It was awesome to see the Cats smash Port Adelaide by a record 119 points yesterday; I've been telling you all year that this is our year and it is!

I was so happy that I wore my footy scarf to church this morning; and I noticed all the closet Cats fans are coming out. Amazing, too, how footy brings people together.

Now, I wonder if we can do this two years in a row??

Oh, and by the way, me and my Port supporting friend Sammy are still speaking. Sammy, you may be a Port fan, but God loves you anyway. Hugs!

THIS is our year

And now for a cat post, because I am a cat lover after all. Susie (left) seems blissfully ignorant of how well her puddy pals are doing in the footy - but my hopes are high. I'm already planning my Grand Final party for September! Why? Because I really believe this is our year - the Cats now hold the top spot on the AFL ladder, and I can't see us toppling any time soon.

Did you watch us pound the Brisbane Lions by a massive 50 points today? Look out world - this year the Cats really are 'on the ball'!

Disclaimer: To understand the elation of Cats fans at gaining top spot on the ladder, you need to understand that the last time Geelong won a Grand Final was before most of us were born, in 1963.

The Cats show who really has the power

Just as I suspected, Geelong thumped Port Adelaide by a whopping 56 points yesterday. I have to rub this in because my mate Sammy and I have an intense rivalry going (she barracks for Port Adelaide Power).

I am looking forward to seeing how Geelong go this season (hopefully I'll get to go and see a couple of games live) because I believe we have a good chance of getting our paws on the Grand Final trophy if we keep going as we have been. Normally we do well at the start of the season, before falling in a heap (otherwise we do terribly, before bouncing back to make it to the finals, and then lose after a couple of matches). This year, however, will be different. We are currently 2nd on the AFL ladder - and climbing! Look out you ever-annoyingly-triumphant interstate teams - Victoria's hope, the Cats, are coming after you!
