Non-sense

I went job hunting today (I decided I should eventually make use of my nursing registration). It was fun going round dropping my resume into places and smiling with all my might... so hopefully a job will come of it :)

It's funny, even though the government doesn't want people to be on the dole, they still make it very hard for people to get their head above water financially.

For example: If I want to work as well as study, I will lose part of my payment once my income goes above a certain amount. If I want to save money and invest it, the government will cut my payment until I've spent the money I've saved. If my mum wants to buy another house as an investment property, they'll consider it an asset and dock her payments.

Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it?

Yes your absolutely right, I lost my aus study coz of work...im a little better off working..but its not a great incentive.

The other thing is that people on the dole have to send in a certain amount of resume's per week...but people i know send out resumes without any intention of getting work...and their resumes reflect this. A lot of people seem happy to be on the dole....i find this outrageous that people are allowed to be satisfied doing nothing. People should be doing some kind of learning/working/volunteering

Hmmm... most people I meet who are on the dole don't want to be on it.. it's very demoralizing being knocked back over and over again. After a while they give up hope, but I think the vast majority of people want to be working or at least having some purpose to their existence.

What really doesn't make sense is the latest effort to force mothers back to work. My mum gets hounded all the time to go to a seminar, apply for such-and-such a course, and basically go get a job, but the problem we'll have is that kids who are home by themselves or out on the street with no supervision will go wild.. and we'll wonder why a whole generation grows up with higher rates of crime / drug use / truancy etc. Mothers need to be home with their kids I reckon. Why is that not considered a meaningful occupation?
